About Orang Minyak
The Orang Minyak is a creature from Malay folklore that is said to abduct young women at night. Orang Minyak translates to “Oily Man” from Malay, with many older movies depicting the creature as covered in some form of crude oil, possibly due to local industrial developments.
The Orang Minyak was also allegedly first mentioned in 1957 in a report made by the Berita Harian in Singapore, making the folktale truly local.
